The Supervisory Dialogue: External & Internal Supervision with Patrick Casement

Saturday 28th February 2009

Hove YMCA is running a one day seminar for clinical practitioners led by Patrick Casement. The day will take the format of a seminar with opportunity for discussion of clinical work.

Specifically, examples will be given to illustrate the value of such issues as:

  • Trial identification with the patient
  • Monitoring the analytic space and process
  • The choice of focus for an interpretation
  • Finding connections as compared with making connections
  • Meta communication that may be sensed by a client in how interpretations are made

We will also consider the function of mistakes by the analyst/counsellor and how this can play an important part in the work.

Patrick Casement

Patrick Casement was a training and supervising analyst for The British Psychoanalytical Society.  His first book, ‘On Learning from the Patient’, is an international bestseller published in over 20 languages.  2002’s ‘Learning from Our Mistakes’ was awarded a Gradiva Award in America for its contribution to psychoanalysis and his last, semi-autobiographical book, ‘Learning From Life: Becoming a Psychoanalyst’ was published in 2006.  These titles will be on sale on the day and Patrick will be available for book-signing.
