Friday 12th December will see the launch of the Winter 2008 Safer Drinking Campaign, run in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Crime Reduction Initiatives (CRI).
Outreach workers, dressed as lollipop ladies, will be stopping people on their nights out and talking to them about how to reduce risks from alcohol and letting them know about the Safe Space project.
Safe Space is provided by experienced staff from Sussex Central YMCA and British Red Cross volunteers at St Paul’s Church in west Street, Brighton and funded by the PCT. It provides support, first aid services and a place of safety to people in the town centre who have become vulnerable, injured or distressed often as a result of drinking too much or drug use. The safe space is open every Friday and Saturday night from 11pm to 3.45am.
For more information please contact the Sussex Central YMCA Safe Space Coordinator Laura Clark on laura.clark@sussexcentralymca.org.uk or call 01273 828828.
