In association with Mind Brighton and Hove, Hove YMCA staff members and young people will be marking World Mental Health Day on Friday 10th October by taking a leisurely 1 mile walk through Preston Park to celebrate the creation of the Mind Mile and to promote the relationship between mental health and exercise.
There will also be an exhibition of photographs by young people helping to publicise mental health issues as part of the Experience in Mind project. Through this innovative project young people aged 16 - 25 aim to encourage a better understanding of young people's
mental health through creative presentation and by offering training to
professionals. The photographs, taken by young people, offer a unique
insight into young people's mental health, looking at issues such as
depression, identity and destruction from their point of view.
Join the group on Friday 10th October in Preston Park at 11.30 outside
the Chalet Cafe. Tea and cakes will be available after the walk.
World Mental Health Day started in 1992, starting as an annual activity
of the World Federation for Mental Health. The day is officially
commemorated across the world every year on October 10th and The Mental
Health Foundation uses it as an opportunity to celebrate and discuss
mental health issues.
