Hove YMCA in SchoolsSchools and educational professionals have continued to recognise the valuable impact Hove YMCA’s various projects can give to their pupils and parents.
Over the years Hove YMCA has become capable of offering a truly holistic approach to help young people. Our different departments work with each other to supply a full package of support for schools that integrate varying levels of support. It is this wide blend of expertise that puts us at the forefront of helping young people, children and families in schools today...
Below is just a taster of what we can offer in local Schools...
LINX Family Support
LINX is a Hove YMCA project working with school clusters in and around the City to offer families group and individual support based on the principles of positive parenting and partnership. The support aims for early intervention, with a child focused approach tailored to family need.
We work in partnership with parents and schools to -
* Promote effective communication.
* Support positive parenting.
* Strengthen family & school relationships.
* Reduce risk of future social disaffection.
* Offer consultation and support to stakeholder schools.
The LINX service works in 22 schools across Brighton and Hove.
The team also has two workers based within Schools and Community Support teams of the Children & Young Peoples Trust (West and Central areas) who provide specialist support to parents of children with conduct disorders or mental health difficulties, providing packages of support within a community CAMHS (Children & Adolescent Mental health Service) setting.
Sport
Sport In Schools
Sport Leadership ProgrammesHove YMCA in Schools. The team has delivered a range of accredited sports leader programmes to schools for students who are at risk of exclusion. The programmes train students to be sports coaches and teach them how to coach younger children. This has led to increased confidence, self-esteem and an improved attitude to education from the students.
Extended Schools Programme
Hove YMCA's Sports Department has been working in various primary and secondary schools, providing high quality physical activity programmes as part of the after-school curriculum. Sports include football, basketball, athletics and multi-sports. A notable success was St Andrews School, Hove winning the primary schools athletics tournament.
Counselling In Schools
The largest growth area over the last two years has been take-up of the service by Head Teachers of primary and secondary schools. Recognising the need for specialised help, teachers, schools and pupils have benefited greatly from Hove YMCA’s Therapeutic Service. Hove YMCA counsellors currently work in over 70 schools across Sussex.
All children are able to access this free service, either by speaking to a member of the teaching staff, or by leaving a confidential note for the school counsellor.
