Safe Space is a partnership between Hove YMCA, Sussex Police, Red Cross, Brighton & Hove Primary Care Trust, and the Drug and Alcohol Action Team. The service provides support and assistance to people who are vulnerable as a result of injury, distress and/or alcohol and drug use. The provision is delivered from St Paul’s Church in West Street, in the heart of Brighton’s bar and nightclub district, and from the seafront.
‘Safe Space continued to run over the Christmas period and was extremely successful, with a large number of people using the service, particularly on New Year’s Eve. Safe Space continues to get busier and develop into a more widely known
service both within the local community and the night time economy’- Gemma Doughty, Safe Space Coordinator.
Stay Safe in the Park
Youth & Community Services deliver a successful park based community safety project called ParkSafe. Youth and Sport Workers deliver sport sessions for children and young people, mainly in Stoneham Park. They also train and support young people to become ParkSafe volunteers. Workers discuss community safety issues and offer information and advice, particularly on alcohol and substance use. This work has made the park safer, reduced bullying and increased community use. In 2008 Stoneham Park was awarded Green Park Status.

Staying Safe: Sexual Health
The Youth Advice Centres continue to see high demand from young people for information and advice on relationships and sexual health issues. We have workers who can advise or support you on sexual health, bullying, education, employment, money, parents, families or just to have a chat. We won't pass on any information about you without your permission (unless we believe you are at risk of harm or someone else could be).
