The Brighton Marathon - Sunday 18th April 2010

The Brighton Marathon - Sunday 18th April 2010

Here is your chance to take part in Brighton's very first Marathon!

The first Brighton Marathon takes place on Sunday 18th April 2010.  This is the perfect Marathon for those who have missed out on a place in the London Marathon or who are looking for a smaller crowd to run in! There are just 12,000 places available in the Brighton Marathon, made up of 9,000 individual places and 3,000 guaranteed Charity places.

The Marathon is being held exclusively on roads and tarmac so it will be quite a fast course.  There are some undulations on the route, particularly in the first half, but runners will be pleased to hear that the second half of the race is very flat!  The course begins at Preston Park, then heads down the London Road to the Royal Pavillion and The Level before taking a breathtaking swing out to Ovingdean and Rottingdean.  The runners will then return to central Brighton along the sea front and take a route up through the edges of Hove in the West before returning to the sea front and a spectacular finish on Madeira Drive.

For further information on the Brighton Marathon course please take a look at the race organiser's website at: www.brightonmarathon.co.uk

How to get your guaranteed place in the 2010 Brighton Marathon

To secure your place in the 'Team Y' for the inaugural Brighton Marathon or you need to do is fill out the application form and send it to us with your registration fee of £50.

All we ask is that you commit to raising a minimum of £600 in sponsorship for Sussex Central YMCA.  Your registration fee will count towards this total.  You can raise money in lots of different ways, not just from friends, family and colleagues through race sponsorship.  You can organise your own fundraising events (bake-a-cake sale, carboot, Ebay sales) or ask your employers or local firms to support you.

Please send completed applications to:

On 30th January 2010 between 8pm and 8am Sussex Central YMCA are asking people to take part in a new event called Sleep Easy and spend the night sleeping rough so others don't have to.

Sussex Central YMCA has been supporting young people across Sussex for 90 years.  Every night we provide over 130 bed spaces for young people who would otherwise be homeless.

Resident and volunteer Kim says of Sussex Central YMCA: "they helped me when I needed a roof over my head.  When I wasn't very well and had no one to turn to Sussex Central YMCA supported me.  I don't like to think about what would have happened to me if Sussex Central YMCA wasn't there."

Challenge yourself, have fun and raise money to support Sussex Central YMCA's work with homeless young people by spending a night sleeping out under the stars (cardboard boxes provided by Big Yellow Storage!).  The Sleep Easy event will take place in the grounds of the recently reopened St Peter's Church with a fun-packed programme including live music, story telling and giant games.

Registration fee is £10 and includes supper and breakfast by Bagelman, Pret a Manger and McDonalds.
