Have You Got A Spare Room?

Have you got a spare room?

  • Would you like to boost your income?

  • Are you able to donate some funds to a good cause?

  • Do you want to help a young person on the road to independent living?

  • If the answer is YES to any of the above then Hove YMCA needs you.

Last year 790 young people approached Hove YMCA Housing Services in housing need.

Hove YMCA’s Housing Service mediates with landlords or parents to try to prevent young people from leaving home and if this is not possible helps young people access supported housing, social housing, or the private rented sector.

The private rented sector proves difficult for young people to access due to high rent, the need for deposits and guarantors and not all landlords are happy to rent to young people.

How can you help? Hove YMCA is looking for people to:

  • Rent a room to a young person: We would find a suitable young person for you, draw up a tenancy agreement, arrange payment of rent and support both you and the young person in the process
  • Becoming a guarantor: Putting some money forward or agreeing to be a named person to provide emergency rent if the young person is having financial difficulties
  • Offer funding towards deposits for rent: To enable us to match fund money which young people have saved in order to secure accommodation(most landlords request the cost of a months rent in advance)
