Hove YMCA and their team of workers and volunteers endeavour to support young people to achieve their potential in its fullest sense, and to enable them to navigate the often difficult and challenging journey through adolescence into adulthood.
Every year Hove YMCA staff, young people and their parents as well as members of the community gather to celebrate the variety of achievements and goals that the young people have reached throughout the year. This can range from being a volunteer sports coach to gaining a Duke of Edinburgh Award. This year is no exception and some amazing young people were congratulated.
The event was held at City Coast Church in Portslade, on Wednesday 14th November. The Mayor and Councillor Brian Oxley attended the event to give out awards to the delighted young people.
There were awards for young people who have mental health difficulties who train professionals and others on ways of working with young people with mental health difficulties; a group of young people with moderate learning difficulties who successfully completed the Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition using specially designed photo maps; young people living in Hove YMCA supported housing who have overcome personal difficulties to gain Brighton & Hove Youth Awards and groups of young people who have gained sport leadership qualifications and volunteer as young leaders at Hove YMCA youth and sport clubs. Sports Leaders at The Y'OscarsJohn Fox received the award for Volunteer of the Year for his excellent, enthusiastic work in the Parksafe project. He was clearly delighted to receive his award and he described his experience in three words: 'fantastic team work'.
Hove YMCA sincerely hopes that this year’s success can be built on and hopes to support even more young people to achieve their goals and personal development in the future.
