Role:
Lunch Club Volunteer
Abigail worked at the lunch club for about four months. Her duties were helping with food preparation, setting tables, serving lunch and helping clear up afterwards. She worked well as part of a team, supporting and helping other young volunteers. She was very reliable and cheerful, which the older people enjoyed very much. She was helpful with the older people and showed a lot of patience and understanding. That’s why we presented her with an award at the Hove YMCA Y’Oscars ceremony! - Jackie, Older People’s Project Coordinator

Abigail was being supported by tenancy support and wanted to do some volunteering to fit with her course, a diploma in Health and Social Care. Her support worker introduced her to the youth volunteering project and helped her with the recruitment process. There were several opportunities on offer, but to fit with childcare, Abigail decided to first try out the Y-Saturday Club for children with moderate learning difficulties. She got on really well in the club but was worried she wouldn’t make the 60 hours for her coursework and wanted to try out something else. So she then went onto another volunteer opportunity in the Older People’s lunch club, assisting with the lunch and the activities, whilst befriending the older people. She volunteered from March to July 07 and become a committed and valued member of the team. To say thank you and recognise her en
